The capital of Sri Lanka is comparatively more laid back than most capital cities in Asia! Incredible and luxurious hotels, amazing restaurants and eccentric neighbourhoods await to be explored.
Gangaramaya Temple
This sacred temple is one of the oldest you’ll find in Colombo, featuring various chambers, statues and an assembly hall for monks. You must dress appropriately to be admitted into the temple. As you explore this temple, you’ll see a massive collection of Buddha statues, random trinkets, and intricate murals.
The Red Mosque
You’ll find the red mosque inside of the Pettah market, a mosque that is quite easy to spot. This mosque is rather unique looking and is an important religious monument within Colombo.
The Dutch Hospital
Within close vicinity to hotels in Colombo city, you’ll find the Old Colombo Dutch Hospital. Just a 5-minute drive away from Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, these buildings have been around since the 17th century. Similar to the Galle Fort, this site is a heritage building occupied by shops and restaurants.
Colombo National Museum
This museum is housed in an Italianate colonial style building, housing artefacts that represent Sri Lanka’s history going way back. The museum is pretty big, so make sure you allocate just enough time to spend here if you’re a history enthusiast!
