Since its debut as a major venue for international tennis and squash tournaments in the late 90’s, Qatar has embraced the excitement of racquet sports. With Qatar becoming a leading venue for international tennis and squash tournaments, racquet sports emerged as the nation’s sporting passion, giving rise to landmark sport venues including Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. Situated near many Doha Hotels, the Complex can be reached by taking a short ferry ride from Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara.
Owned and managed by Qatar Tennis Federation, Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex is the epicentre of the Federation’s efforts to develop a new generation of Qatari tennis and squash players who can compete in regional and international tournaments. Since its inception in 1992, Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex has played host to some of the world’s most prestigious tennis tournaments including Qatar ExxonMobil Open and Qatar Total Open. Boasting 24 courts and a stadium court that can accommodate 7000 spectators, it is not surprising that Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex was chosen to host the WTA Tour Championships in 2008-2010 and the tennis and squash competitions of the 2006 Asian Games. In 2014, the venue hosted the eagerly anticipated World Squash Championship for the fourth time and in 2001, held the first Qatar Open ladies tennis championship in the Middle East.
