When it comes to secluded island destinations, there are few places on the planet that do it as well as Thailand. With many sun-kissed beaches and the surroundings of a shimmering blue sea, it can be exclusive and comfortable at the same time. Off the mainland of the country are several islands that are perfect examples of this kind of getaway with the peace and privacy you need.
Koh Kood and Koh Mak
With wildlife teeming and flora that’s over 500 years old, the island of Koh Kood is a jungle adventure often overlooked by the majority of tourists that visit Thailand. There’s much to see of natural formations as well – beautiful waterfalls that draw the eye as well as jungle overgrowth. Near Koh Kood lies Koh Mak, an untouched paradise island with a few bungalows to put up your feet and be in sync with nature.
Koh Lipe
Towards Southern Thailand, in the province of Satun, is the snorkelling destination of Koh Lipe. It has marvellously clear stretches of water and is considered a good spot for diving and snorkelling. Although it’s got some distance from your average Chiang Mai hotel, the opportunity to have an uninterrupted session of underwater adventuring is too good to pass, so make sure to put this one on your list.
Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi
Halfway between Phuket and Krabi in Phang Nga Bay are the twin islands of Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi, where coconut trees and blue waters provide a picture-perfect scenery of a hidden island getaway. It’s also got amazing white-sand beaches you can take advantage of, and the islands form an aesthetically pleasing crescent-moon shape that is pleasing to the eye.
Koh Lanta
In the Krabi province is the island of Koh Lanta, the most famous island on the list. Not nearly as secluded as the other inclusions, the island has hilly roads pockmarked with pockets of civilization, stadiums which display sporting events, and much in the way of accommodation. However, its reputation is well earned, as the creature comforts of any good island vacation can be found here, and the island itself is quite easily reached from the mainland and resorts such as the Anantara Chiang Mai Resort.
