This theatre which was constructed in the year 1911 by the French and was later renovated in the late 1900’s. It reveals ancient French architecture as well as Gothic and Mosaic characters represented on the door domes and the glassed room. The frontage has a colonial French design with pillars and balconies that overlook the heart of the city. During the beginning, the theater was only used for the performances of Western artists who visited annually to perform for wealthy Vietnamese and French officials. However, the Opera House later on started to host public performances for charitable causes. Following this, since the 1940, this theater was allowed to be rented out by many of the Vietnamese performance groups. In addition, since the independence of Vietnam, it is also the venue where meetings and conferences are being held including local and international art performances. Now, the 900 seat opera house holds foreign as well as local performances and symphonies.
