Situated in the outskirts of Dubai, the Godolphin Gallery at Nad Al Shebra race course is the store house for all the items collected by the racing stable, that aims to race only the world’s best thouroughbreds. The gallery which was opened in 1998, was to coincide with the Dubai World Cup.
As the name suggests the gallery is named after one of Dubai’s most popular founding stallions among the modern day breeds. Visitors to the gallery will be able to have a peak at the trophies won by the Godolphin stable’s front running horses. Among these is a prized spot from the rest that has been created for Dubai Millennium, the winner and record holder horse of the 2000 Dubai World Cup.
Dubai Millennium had its own portrait unveiled in 2006. For visitors who didn’t have the opportunity of seeing Dubai Millenium can have a glimpse of the life size statue of the horse created by London’s Madame Tussauds. The model relives the moment when the horse won the Dubai World Cup in 2000.
The gallery is very interactive and is complete with touch screen windows and live documentaries which allow visitors to listen to comments on Dubai Millennium. In addition the 131 races won by the horse are also captured on video for anyone to replay.
The cinema in the gallery is in the center and shows – One Man’s Vision, a documentary, which examines the creation of the Madam Tussaud structure of the horse. It also spares a few minutes for an interview with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
After wandering about the sunny UAE, it won’t be a bad idea to relax in a nearby Dubai Hotel. The Raffles Dubai is a luxury hotel in Dubai that offers deluxe facilities and services ideal for pampering.
