The Path to a Balanced Life

The five basic elements in the universe according to Ayurveda are Prithvi (the earth), Akasha (space), Vayu (air), Apa (water) and Tejas (fire). The three doshas known as Vata, Kapha and Pitta are a result of the combination of each element. It is believed that the healthiest state for an individual arrives when the three doshas are in balance. However, an imbalance of these could cause vulnerabilities in our bodies and exposure to diseases. This is where Ayurveda treatments come in.

Different Ayurveda Treatments

Available in various boutique hotels in Sri Lanka, Ayurveda treatments can be categorised into different types. Some of the most commonly available Ayurveda treatments can be identified as Akshitarpana (eye treatments), Khati Vasti (for back pains and spine), Pichu (for muscle and joint pains) and Shiro Vasti (for headaches). Hotels like Saman Villas offer unique styles of Ayurveda treatments like Sahana Heritage, Shirodhara, Reflexology and many more to its guests.

The Importance of Yoga and Meditation

While Ayurveda treatments can instil a balanced state in your being, coupling it up with yoga and meditation will further enhance your wellness due to the physical and psychological benefits that are rewarded to those who practise them. Yoga and meditation carry the ability to build resilience to stress factors, boosting one’s overall health.

Balancing Food and Ayurveda

Ayurveda is not merely a massage or an oil treatment. This unusual path towards wellness also believes that food plays a significant role in balancing Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Most traditional Sri Lankan meals are prepared to preserve Ayurveda elements by mixing homemade curry powder, ground coconuts etc. for better flavour but most importantly better health.
