If you are travelling in Sri Lanka at the moment and are looking out for an experience that is bound to be unforgettable, then visit the hills. Among the hills is Pattipola Railway Station which offers one of the most unique experiences.
The highest railway
This is said to be the only railway station in Sri Lanka located at an altitude of 1897.5 m above sea level. To directly reach the railway station, you can take the Badulla train from Colombo.
The most beautiful train ride
In order to reach Pattipola station, you can also take the train from Kandy. This will be an express journey, nonetheless, very rewarding. Your eyes can feast on some of the most amazing scenery that Sri Lanka has to offer. If you’ve planned your stay at a tea factory hotel in Nuwara Eliya the likes of Heritance Tea Factory, try reaching your destination via train.
Tunnel 18
This is the third-longest tunnel on the island with a length of 321.95 m. It was built by the British who once ruled Sri Lanka. The tunnel is very narrow and very dark when you travel through the middle. Tourists have the chance to hike up to this point as well.
The two ends of the tunnel
The northern part of the tunnel leads to Badulla, and the southern end of the tunnel leads to Nuwara Eliya. The most interesting part about this is that Badulla is the dry zone and Nuwara Eliya is the wet zone of Sri Lanka.
